Verifying DMI Pool Data Hangs
I wanted to share with you how I solved the problem with installing a new IDE Harddrive and finding that the pc wouldn't boot and kept hanging after - Verifying DMI Pool Data. So heres the story...
Existing 40GB harddrive starts to play up, loosing files etc. so, purchase a new 80GB Harddrive
Install the new 80GB Harddrive and install Windows XP
Reboot the PC and just get the message "Verifying DMI Pool Data", then the pc just hangs and comes up with cannot find boot disk.
What I have discovered was that the only way I can get the PC to boot up is to have the IDE Harddrive and CD/DVD drive on the same IDE cable.
Why?
I've got no idea, so maybe someone can let me know, but most importantly it works
Hopefully this little piece of information will save you from the hours of hair pulling that I have recently gone through. This drove me completely mad and couldn't belive how easy in the end it was to solve. I have searched the web looking for an answer and the only ones I came across related to flashing the BIOS, resetting the boot sector etc. etc. none of them state anything to checking that the IDE drive had the harddrive and CD on the same cable.
